Who is OllyHaltonWrites?

me.JPG

I’m a part time writer of sci-fi, horror and fantasy in my spare time, alongside my undergraduate Creative Writing degree at the University of Winchester. Once I've finished my degree, I'm hoping to work in a literary agency or publishing house whilst developing my writing on the side so stay tuned to find out how that progresses!!

I love writing and have done since I was in school, where I wrote the groundwork for my personal project book The Origin Project. The book will hopefully be out soon and is about cloning and alternate dimensions – the premise is imagine your relatives could get cloned after death… they would be happy with a new chance at life, but would they be happy with their second class position in society among humans? And, what lengths would they be willing to go to for more power?

My favourite things to read are sci-fi and fantasy (largely YA) – including Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Saga of Darren Shan and Mortal Instruments. I’m particularly inspired by Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses series and have a fond love for Doctor Who fiction, my favourite being Only Human with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper in their main roles as the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler. I also love watching Doctor Who, Star Wars and anything Marvel or DC.

Regarding inspirations, I look up to a lot of authors who have achieved my boyhood dream including Stephen King and Neil Gaiman (more on that on the links page where I showcase my five favourite authors). A particular writer to which I admire is not a book writer, but is actually a TV one - Russell T Davies. Davies has been a showrunner and creator of multiple British shows including Queer As Folk, Banana, Wizards vs Aliens, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood and is 50% responsible for Doctor Who returning to our screens in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston and later my favourite Doctor, David Tennant.

My other hobbies include running, visiting the cinema to see the latest blockbusters and am down for any social event with my friends that they want to do. I’m a massive lover of animals, my favourite of which being cats. I have researched extensively into their behaviours and psychology over the years such as why they act the way they do and how to properly read their actions, such as their movements with their tails.
